The Zupa Valley in Bosnia and Herzegovina is ringed in by high peaks and yet has a spring-like Mediterranean climate year round. Enjoy this piece of paradise with a long weekend of water sports and cultural tours. You’ll climb a castle-topped peak, explore the Rakitnica River canyon, relax around Baracko Lake, and much more. This long weekend is the ideal getaway for active travelers seeking adventure in the remote and beautiful Balkan wilderness.
Day 01: DUBROVNIK – MOSTAR – BORAČKO LAKE. Arrive at Dubrovnik Airport by 13:00 where your transport will meet you. Begin your adventure with a scenic drive through the Zupa Valley, stopping to explore Mostar – the iconic city famous for its 16th-century Stari Most (Old Bridge) spanning the emerald Neretva River. You’ll have free time to wander through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town before meeting your guide at 19:30 in front of a traditional restaurant serving authentic Bosnian cuisine. After dinner, continue to your accommodation at Boračko Lake, where you’ll spend your first night under Bosnia’s spectacular starry skies.
3.5 hours driving, 1-2 hours sightseeing
Day 02: BORAČKO LAKE – UPPER NERETVA CANYON – BORAČKO LAKE. After breakfast, journey to the Upper Neretva Canyon for a challenging hike to the ruins of a 14th-century mountaintop castle. Your guide will lead you through dense forests and assist with the final climb to the castle’s summit, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views. Descend through beech forests to the Rakitnica River for an exhilarating canyoning adventure through narrow gorges and crystal-clear pools. Enjoy a riverside lunch before returning to Boračko Lake for an afternoon of swimming and relaxation in these pristine waters.
1.5 hours driving, 3 hours hiking, 2-3 hours canyoning
Day 03: BORAČKO LAKE – NERETVA RIVER – KONJIC – BLAGAJ – MOSTAR. Today features a full day of rafting on the stunning Neretva River. Paddle through tranquil emerald pools and exciting rapids, with opportunities for swimming and cliff jumping along the way. After pulling out at Konjic, enjoy lunch and explore this historic town’s famous Old Bridge. In the afternoon, visit magical Blagaj to see its remarkable 16th-century Dervish monastery perched at the mouth of the Buna River spring, with optional visits to the medieval fortress or vulture sanctuary. Return to Mostar for your final night in Bosnia.
4-5 hours rafting, 2.5 hours driving
Day 04: MOSTAR – DUBROVNIK. After breakfast in Mostar, transfer back to Dubrovnik Airport for your flight home, completing your adventure through Bosnia’s most spectacular landscapes.

This trip will run with a minimum of 4 people, and a maximum of 12. Please note, if there are not 4 people booked the trip may be rearranged or cancelled.
A reasonable level of fitness is required for all activities. You need to be able to handle approx. 4-5 hours of activity per day. The hiking can be challenging in its last part, but your guide will help you negotiate the final section securely and safely.
You do not need any rafting or canyoning experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. Be advised that the water can get chilly in the canyon, but you will be provided with wetsuits.

It is rafting up to class three. You will be on a raft boat with between 6 and 8 people. It is run by experienced skippers. No previous experience is needed.
You’ll explore the wild and narrow Rakitnica River canyon with professional guides. Wetsuits will be provided as the water can be chilly.
All activities on this trip will be led in English by qualified and professional local guides certified in wilderness first aid and water safety.
The food is local, fresh, home-cooked and hearty. Common food items include domestic cheeses and other dairy products, dry meats, fish, freshly baked bread and pastries, and local fruits and veggies. We can organize your meals the way you like. Drinks are not included.

Though blocked from the coast by high mountains, the Neretva Canyon funnels a Mediterranean climate into the Zupa Valley. In summer, daytime temperatures range from 24-30°C, but it can get cooler at night. Bring layers of clothing to keep you warm during the evening.
Start point: You will be met at Dubrovnik airport on Thursday. Your transfer will meet all flights scheduled to land by 13:00 or earlier.
Finish point: Your tour will end at Dubrovnik airport on Sunday. Book flights departing after 10:30 am.
The transfer will be holding a sign with the name of the tour. We’ll give you all the extra details before travelling.
Applicants must submit climbing resume, insurance and passport scan. Participants should comfortably hike 15-20km with 1,000m elevation gain and maintain regular aerobic exercise.
If canceled due to insufficient participants, notice will be given 45 days prior. Full refund.
