Take a two-day adventure under the watchful eye of white-headed vultures, head down to the clear Drina River and head through the Trešnjice canyon.
Our adventure begins with the passage through the canyon of the river Trešnjica.
The river Trešnjica springs on the southwestern side of Povlen at a height of 1185 m, and flows into Drina near Gornja Trešnjica at a height of 180 m. The exceptionally gorgeous Trešnjica valley is partly canyon shaped, perfect for hikers and adventurers. The middle stream flows through the picturesque canyon for about 6 km, which is located at an 800-1000 m high surface. It is one of the most beautiful canyons in the region and represents a natural habitat for 17 pairs of griffon eagles, which are still only inhabited in this particular region. This griffon vulture feeds exclusively with the remains of dead animals, and because of its exceptional sanitary role, we call it a “nature purifier”. During the year, the female lays only one egg, and for this reason it is extremely difficult to protect them and keep them from disappearing.
After a full day adventure in the canyon, we relax in our accommodation on the very bank of the Drina River and prepare for tomorrow’s kayak adventure. In traditional ambience characteristic of this region, built in wooden houses with wide courtyard, we collect energy for tomorrow’s day.
After breakfast you’ll be driven to the nearby Drina River, a particularly clean and beautiful stretch of water winding through the mountains.
You’ll receive instructions and review how to paddle your 2-person kayaks, and then hit the water for several scenic hours. Your trip will take you through beautiful landscapes, long stretches of flat water, and a few fun rapids! And don’t worry, no previous kayaking experience is necessary for you to enjoy this tour, our licensed instructors will offer you all the help you’ll need.
We’ll pull out 27 km downstream where your driver will meet you with dry, warm clothes. Enjoy a drink at the beach bar before driving to the Rača Monastery to tour its 13th Century Orthodox architecture. The medieval Rača Monastery is situated in a valley surrounded by wooded hills. Originally built in the 13th Century it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. Its walls are covered in beautiful frescos, and the treasury holds very old manuscripts dating from that period.
After our tour of the monastery, we’ll have a nice, relaxing lunch. After, we’ll pack everything up and return to Belgrade.
