Immerse yourself in the old beauty of Trebinje, visit a Monastery winery and climb Bosnia & Herzegovina's highest peak, all in 2N/3D

Experience all true, rugged colors of Bosnia & Herzegovina, from the old town of Trebinje, rare tempered rainforests called Perucica and Maglic, its highest peak.

Your adventure will start from the bottom up (as it should), visiting Trebinje city and its old parts dating from 18th century Ottoman period, moving to Perucica, rare European rainforest with a visit to Skakavac(Grasshopper) waterfall hidden in it, before climbing the highest peak this gorgeous country can offer. All with the helping hand of your guide, discussing about the history and difficult past of these magnificent places.

Itinerary

Day 1

Friday: Arrival and tour of old Trebinje city

Transfer from airport in Dubrovnik to our first stop – Trebinje. We’ll visit the old center of the city, full of buildings dating from several centuries ago. Later, a lunch break in one of the local restaurants offering local cuisine.

Then, as a perfect addition for our full stomachs, we’ll visit Tvrdoš Monastery with organized tasting of their famous wines. After a cheerful reception, we head on to our accommodation in Tjentište, just in time to prepare and discuss our tomorrow’s adventure over dinner.

Day 2

Saturday: Climbing Maglić – highest peak of Bosnia

We’ll rise early, at 7.00 am, then breakfast at 7.30h, so we can be prepared for departure to Dragoš sedlo at 8.00h.  There we’ll make a brief stop to experience and photograph a stunning view of the Perućica rainforest and waterfall Skakavac, located in the heart of Perućica. We then continue with our jeeps towards Prijevor, from where we’ll clearly see our goal for today – Maglic.

From here we start our climb, secured by a hiking trail all the way to the top of Maglić. After around 3 hours of hiking, we reach the top of Maglic (2386m), there, we’ll take a break to enjoy its glorious views, while also replenish our energy in the form of a lunch packet.

Well refreshed, we head down the same path to Prijevor and our return to Tjentište. Tired and happy, we arrive just in time for dinner. Later, if there’s some energy left, we’ll take a short tour to visit the valley of heroes and monument of the Battle of Sutjeska which took place in 1943. We return to our hotel, for a good night sleep.

Day 3

Sunday: Departure

We rise early for breakfast, then pack and head to Dubrovnik airport so you can catch your flight home.

Can I book on my own?
Sure can! A lot of people do, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

How big will the group be?
This trip will run with a minimum of 4 people, and a maximum of 16. Please note, if there are not 4 people booked the trip may be rearranged or cancelled.

What’s the food like?
The food is local, fresh, home-cooked and hearty. Common food items include domestic cheeses and other dairy products, dry meats, fish, freshly baked bread and pastries, and local fruits and veggies.

Can my dietary needs be accommodated?
Absolutely! Just let us know at booking.

How fit do I need to be?
A reasonable level of fitness is required for hiking, approx. ascending 700 m at a relaxed pace.
You will need to be able to handle 5 – 6 hours of hiking in continuous pace for this adventure.

What’s the weather like?
Summer is the best season to experience Bosnia where daytime temperatures range from 22 – 30 °C. However, at night it can get cooler, so don’t forget to still bring some layers of clothing to keep you warm! Also, during autumn days are a little bit shorter and thus colder with a higher chance of rain, so some kind of rain jacket is advised.

What should I pack?
Please bring hiking shoes and trousers, breathable t-shirts, sandals, sun protection, and warm layers for the evenings. Also bring a small backpack to carry personal items throughout the day (water, snacks, shirts to use during activities).

What flights should I book?

Start point?
You will be met at the Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) on Thursday. Your transfer will meet all flights scheduled to land by 13:00 or earlier. Your host will be in touch before the trip to finalize all details.

Finish point?

Your transport will drop you off at Dubrovnik Airport (TGD) on Sunday. You are free to book any flight departing on Sunday after 10:30. Your host will be in touch before your trip to finalize details.

You can get any flights that suit you, but make sure they fit the times above to take advantage of the included transfers. Your host will contact you before you leave to check your arrival and departure plans.

Getting there and away?
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is served by regular, inexpensive flights, including well-timed outbound flights on EasyJet.

We can’t guarantee availability of twin rooms for the duration of the tour. All rooms will, in most cases, be double, or more. Or single upon request.

In a highly unlikely case of insufficient number of people accommodated in one of our selected hotels, dinner will be served on a basis of a predetermined menu of 2 or 3 meals.
